Rainham Steel was formed in April 1973 by the late Bill Ives. It is now the UK’s foremost independent Steel Stockholder and Distributor. The company specialises in the supply of Universal Beams, Universal Columns, Channels, Angels, Large Flats and Structural Hollow Section to major Steel Fabricators, Stockholders, Construction Companies, Civil Engineers and Builders Merchants.
Rainham Steel operates from its head office based in Rainham, Essex and a satellite sales office based in Bury near Manchester together with its distribution depots located in Rainham, Essex and Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire.
The main distribution facility for the company, which houses all of the structural sections and structural hollow sections, is based in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. The site was opened in September 2002, and is widely recognised as one of the most modern, safe and efficient steel distribution depots in Europe. The flagship 55 acre site was primarily chosen for its locality to the nearby British Steel mills, as well as offering ease of access to the dock facilities for imports and exports.
Established 1981, the Rainham distribution depot specialises in the supply of reinforcing products, including cut and bent reinforcing rod, reinforcing mesh and general steel products for the building trade.
The company has recently expanded its operations in the South East with the development of a new industry leading reinforcing rod fabrication plant in Rainham. The new 10 acre site has been developed at a cost of over £9m to provide state of the art cut and bent production space along with additional storage facilities for reinforcing products and steel sections.

The key to the company’s success, within the steel industry, is its ability to consistently provide customers with a fast, reliable and competitive service, supplying to locations throughout the UK and Europe.
Rainham Steel is committed to developing its business by investment in new property, plant and equipment. Over recent years major investment projects have been undertaken to expand existing facilities at a cost to date in excess of £18 million. This includes the commissioning of a new state of the art steel processing facility at Scunthorpe.
The company employs over 180 members of staff and runs and manages its own fleet of 50 Heavy Goods Vehicles.
During the last ten years Rainham Steel has also expanded its operations into property investments. Two dedicated property companies have been established which own collectively an extensive portfolio of industrial and commercial investments.
